Starry Night Baker is a home-based kitchen in Dearborn, Michigan specializing in custom cakes and cookies for all occasions. As a home-based kitchen, it is not inspected by the Michigan Dept. of Agriculture & Rural Development...fyi. All orders are by appointment and most require at least 2 weeks advance notice, although it doesn't hurt to call.
FUN FACT...
In February 2014, Starry Night Baker heard that the Detroit Institute of Arts was on the verge of selling its collection when the City of Detroit went into bankruptcy, and wanted to--in some small way, even if it was a token show of support---help out. So, hand-painted masterpiece cookies were created and sold for $5.00 a piece, packaged and sold with 100% of the proceeds going to support the D.I.A. Additionally, a percentage of February cake and cookie sales went to the D.I.A. in 2014 and 2015. The fundraiser was called "Art from the Heart" (get it? Valentine's Day, February, hearts, it rhymes...okay, enough!) I'm sure Starry Night Baker didn't single-handedly keep art on the walls of the D.I.A. but maybe my contribution helped put bagels on the table of the museum staff meeting the morning they announced that the museum didn't have to sell off the collection, and I feel pretty good about that.
I have to admit I was pretty proud when Detroit HOUR Magazine mentioned the DIA fundraiser and put my picture in the August 2014 issue. Copy and paste this address to read more: http://www.hourdetroit.com/Hour-Detroit/August-2014/Butchers-Bakers-Candy-Makers/?cparticle=5&siarticle=4
ALSO...Starry Night Baker won Best of Show in the Gingerbread House Contest at the 2014 Festival of Trees: A Benefit for the Children's Hospital of Michigan Foundation. It was a great year.
